Volunteering for a charity often means helping with a single event or task that someone else organizes. Joining a service club like Soroptimist means being part of a team that creates and leads the projects that make a difference. Members help identify local needs, design programs, fundraise, and build partnerships — all while developing friendships and leadership skills. It’s about community impact and connection.

While our club focuses on serving the Langley community, members are welcome from surrounding areas too. If you can attend meetings or contribute remotely, you’re welcome to be part of the club.

 Yes! We welcome community volunteers who want to contribute materials to specific projects or events. Many of our members first got involved by helping spread the word about SIL activities and events before deciding to join. 

Most members attend one monthly meeting and take part in one or two projects or events each year. We know everyone’s schedule is different, so participation is flexible — you choose how much you can do. Some members are very active; others contribute when time allows. Every effort matters. We generally take Summers off.

 Absolutely! We invite guests to attend our general meetings on the first Tuesday of each month at Andreas Restaurant in Langley. It’s a great way to meet our members, learn about our projects, and experience the spirit of our club firsthand.

Prospective members are asked to attend two meetings before making a decision to join the club. Just reach out through our contact form, and we’ll be happy to reserve a seat for you and provide the meeting details.

 Our full club meets once a month for a general meeting, where we plan projects, share updates, and enjoy time together. The executive committee also meets once a month to handle club business and coordination.

In addition, dedicated committees for fundraising, events and programs set their own meeting schedules — some meet in person, others via Zoom, depending on what works best for their members.

Between meetings, members take part in hands-on community involvement, fundraising events, and outreach activities based on their interests and availability. There’s plenty of room to contribute at your own pace — and plenty of friendship along the way.

 New members are welcome at any time, year-round. You can start by attending a meeting or speaking with our membership chair to learn more. If you decide to join, you’ll complete a short application and pay membership dues. Once approved, we’ll officially welcome you as a member and pair you with a mentor to help you settle in.

Membership dues help sustain our programs and connect us to the wider Soroptimist network. They cover local club operations, as well as regional, national, and international affiliation fees that allow us to participate in global projects and advocacy. Dues ensure we can keep our focus on meaningful, ongoing service — not just one-time fundraising. 

 Not at all. What matters most is a desire to make a difference and a willingness to work together. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds and bring their own strengths — whether that’s organizing, mentoring, fundraising, or simply showing up to help. 

 Yes. We often share updates, meeting minutes, and opportunities for online participation. Members who can’t attend every meeting in person can still contribute by helping plan events, supporting fundraising efforts, donations or connecting through digital channels. Every contribution counts.
